In the last group stage match for Rajasthan Royals in 2013 Champions League, Rajasthan Royals were up against Kiwi team Otago Volts. Otago Volts, on the back of their 15 match winning streak, had to win the match to edge out Mumbai Indians out of semi final berth contention. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, in spite of already making it to the semi final, had the prospect of playing in the first semi final which is scheduled at their home ground at Jaipur and get a break of a day before playing the final, after winning this match against Otago Volts.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals decided to opt for bowling first. Otago Volts were jolted by Rahul Shukla. Rahul Shukla, playing his first match, has had a dream start bagging three wickets in his very first over. With some effort from the lower middle order of Otago Volts, they gave a target of 140 runs for Rajasthan Royals. The chase for Rajasthan Royals looked to be completed with ease as their opener Ajinkya Rahane completed his second half century in succession.

However, Otago Volts came back strongly and Rajasthan Royals faced the prospect of making 50 runs in last 4 over to win the match. Brad Hodge, the finisher from Australia, proved true to his duties and delivered exactly what was necessary. Rajasthan Royals won the match the match with 5 balls to spare, giving Mumbai Indians some hope. Rahul Shukla was awarded Man of the Match.
