Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians shall compete in 2013 Champions League opener

Mumbai Indians has had a memorable sixth season of Indian Premier League as they were crowned the winners of the tournament. The season was also batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s last IPL outing. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals has also had a memorable IPL outing during the 6th season, albeit for all the wrong reasons. With three Rajasthan Royals’ cricketers, S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, got embroiled in the spot fixing scandal. In spite of this, the team lead by another batting legend from India Rahul Dravid, Rajasthan Royals finished third on the points table of IPL 6.

This gave a default qualification for Rajasthan Royals for the forthcoming edition of Champions League. Mumbai Indians, being the winners of IPL, will also be taking part in Champions League 2013. Rajasthan Royals would be facing Mumbai Indians in the opening match of 2013 Champions League. This match is scheduled to happen on September 21, 2013, after the completion of the qualifying matches for the season. The prospect of clash of two IPL teams in Champions League has increased the anticipation around the match.

While Sachin Tendulkar, who would be representing Mumbai Indians, has already announced that this tournament would mark the end of his sting for Mumbai Indians; same can be expected to be in store for another batting legend, Rahul Dravid. Hence, this match might be the last encounter with two legends, Sachin and Rahul Dravid, competing in opposing teams on field. Hence, the excitement is doubled for the match.
