Zimbabwe register first win over Pakistan in 15 years

India, the Number One side in the One Day International format, was the hot favourite to win their 5 match ODI series against Zimbabwe, even if India fielded a young side. Hence it came as no surprise that India managed to register their first ODI series whitewash in away conditions. Following India, it was turn of another sub-continental team to tour the African country. India’s arch rival, Pakistan, is currently touring Zimbabwe and again the home side are expected to tank against them.

This expectation proved precise until the end of the T20 series as Pakistan won both the T20 matches of the series. However, the start of the One Day International series surfaced a big surprise for the home crowd celebrations and a big shock for the visiting side and their supporters. Pakistan batted first in the match and posted a total of 244 runs in their 50 over. Captain Misbah ul Haq and Mohammad Hafeez provided the bulk of runs to this total of 244 runs. Vitori and Chatara were the pick of the bowlers for the Zimbabwe side.

However, the real star for the home side was opener Masakadza who scored 85 runs. Even though, Masakadza was denied a chance to make his century, he provided the platform for Zimbabwe’s first win over Pakistan after 1994. Sibanda, Taylor and a late flourish from Williams ensured that Zimbabwe reached home to the target of 245 runs. Masakadza was awarded Man of the Match for his innings of 85.
