The win which South Africa secured in the third ODI in 5 match bilateral series between Sri Lanka and South Africa brought an end to South Africa’s miserable record against Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan soil. However, their woes in the ongoing series continued as Sri Lanka won the fourth One Day International and got an unassailable lead in the series. In the fourth ODI, South Africa batted first and was propelled to a very good start by Hashim Amla and J P Duminy. J P Duminy was denied the opportunity to reach his century when Ajantha Mendis got him clean bowled on 97 runs. Hashim Amla proved an able opener for South Africa once again as he made 77 runs in 71 balls.
However, the South African team failed to gain momentum on the good work of Duminy and Amla. After reaching 118 runs for loss of 2 wickets, South Africa failed to even play their 50 over quota as Malinga and Mendis wreaked havoc with their bowling. Malinga fetched 3 wickets while Mendis got 4 wickets. The target of 239 runs proved woefully insufficient for Sri Lankan batting might.
Dilshan shrugged off any talks about failing form and made an unbeaten century while Sangakkara just failed to reach his century and got out on 91 runs. Sri Lanka comfortably reached home in 44 over and 8 wickets in hand. Dilshan was awarded Man of the Match for his unbeaten century and his 2 wickets with the ball.
