BCCI announces Team India squad for World Twenty20 2012

Team India's squad was announced on Friday for the T20 World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka. The same squad will also play two T20 matches against New Zealand in September.

There were a few surprising names included as well as missing from the 15-men India squad. The biggest highlight was the inclusion of left-handed Yuvraj Singh, who will be making a comeback in international cricket after recovering from Cancer. Another surprising element was the inclusion of senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was left out from the national side last year. Moreover, L. Balaji will also be making a comeback in international cricket after three long years.

Probably, the two T20 matches to be played against New Zealand in September will be test of fitness and form for Yuvraj Singh. Another startling inclusion was of leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who has done well in the domestic season this year.

Among the surprising left-outs, there were Rahul Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, Amit mishra and Varun Aaron. Irfan Pathan was sure to be selected after his match-winning performances against Sri Lanka. Rohit sharma, despite performing badly against Sri Lanka in the recent ODI series, has been given a chance in the T20 format.

Indian pace attack will be once again led by Zaheer Khan. He will be supported by Irfan Pathan and Ashok Dinda. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see if the off-spin duo of Harbhajan Singh and R. Ashwin will get a chance to play together, considering the inclusion of leg-spinner Chawla as well in the team.
